We designed a culturally resonant MMU van
that made healthcare approachable for rural Assam.

Delivering healthcare to remote rural areas of Assam demanded more than just mobility; it required a design that connected with the people it aimed to serve.
Explanation of the Problem
The Hans Foundation, in collaboration with Resonia, set out to design a Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) to bring accessible healthcare to Assam’s rural regions. However, the challenge lay not only in functionality but also in relatability. To ensure the van was welcomed and trusted by local communities, it needed to reflect Assamese rural culture while maintaining a strong medical identity.
How do we make a Mobile Medical Unit look and feel personal to the communities it serves?
The Vision
To create a mobile healthcare unit that embodies trust, accessibility, and cultural connection; bringing medical care closer to rural Assam.
Design Objectives
- Design a van that clearly communicates its medical purpose while remaining approachable.
- Integrate Assamese cultural motifs to build emotional resonance with rural audiences.
- Maintain high visibility and legibility for the design on the move.
- Ensure functionality through a clean, balanced, and clutter-free visual layout.
- Deliver print-ready files optimized for vehicle wrapping and deployment.
What We Did
We designed the MMU van to bridge the gap between modern healthcare and Assamese rural culture. The visual concept combined the professionalism of a medical service with the warmth of local identity. Drawing inspiration from Assamese textile motifs and rural design elements, we created a layout that was both functional and culturally expressive. Every panel was carefully planned to ensure clarity, visibility, and balance, even when the van was on the move. Our team handled the complete process; from concept and artwork development to layout design and print-ready file delivery; ensuring seamless coordination with the execution team for final wrapping and deployment.

To deliver essential healthcare services to remote rural communities through a mobile medical unit.
Cultural References:
Visual cues drawn from Assamese art, textiles, and everyday rural life to create familiarity and trust.

Integrated the identities of The Hans Foundation and Resonia seamlessly within the overall design system.

The MMU van was successfully deployed across rural regions of Assam, instantly standing out for its culturally resonant design and professional appeal. The project was well-received by both The Hans Foundation and local communities, earning recognition and a feature in a local newspaper. The final MMU van design not only functioned as a healthcare vehicle but also as a symbol of care, trust, and connection for the people it serves.
